No Progress Made on Critical Issues
Bargaining Team Reiterates Need for Job Security, Fairness in Scheduling and Staffing Processes
On May 11, our Bargaining Team met with the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation to continue negotiations for a new collective agreement. Unfortunately minimal progress was made in negotiations, with management labeling the job security, scheduling and seniority protections that we proposed as “non-starters”, despite the fact that several other unionized employers in the area have agreed to the same provisions. In response, our team indicated that current practices – or lack thereof – regarding scheduling and staffing (including use of temporary workers), as well as the lack of job security in our contract, will need to be addressed in these negotiations.
Our team reiterated that there needs to be a commitment on the part of the corporation to its employees. We should have stable working hours. There should be job security in our collective agreement. Our employer should recognize our years of service with the Corporation. Other employers in Ottawa/Gatineau region have agreed to these things. We deserve nothing less.
More Bargaining Scheduled
We have several dates scheduled for negotiations this month. We’ll be sure to update as things progress. If you have any questions contact your Shop Steward or a member of our Bargaining Team: Daniel Poulin (Guide), Guy Gagnon (Security), Patrice Rémillard (Collections).
