Information meetings in Ottawa and Gatineau: How to fightback!
Day after day, members are learning about the impact on their workplace of the budget cuts of the last federal budget. It's clear you will be asked to do more with less resources.
The PSAC has every intention to fight against these cuts and to inform the public that with less money and less workers, public services will be impacted.
To help you know what to look for when managers are meeting you to discuss cost reduction, we are offering infomation meetings. More meetings will be added over the next weeks, so visit this page regularly. We also offer training sessions for those who want to learn more.

We are going to fight back!
The Harper Conservatives have decided to make the
public sector pay for the financial crisis. The spending freeze announced in the 2010 federal budget will result in job and service cuts if we do not mobilize powerful and effective opposition on the ground. This is what our action plan is all about.
We must fight any cuts and reductions to public services and to the workers that provide
them. We must enforce our job security rights in collective agreements. We must all
speak out against cuts – to family, friends, co-workers and managers. Our message is
loud and clear: we need public services now more than ever!
PSAC has prepared a campaign kit to help our
Local/Branch executive members, Stewards and other
activists engage our members in the budget fightback
campaign.
Here are the details. All documents can be downloaded (PDF files):
- A message from PSAC National President John Gordon about the Speech from the Throne, the latest
federal budget and their impact on our members (PDF version);
- An outline of the actions our union and our
activists need to take to fight back;
- A leaflet that should be distributed to
your members to let them know that they have rights and their union will be there to
defend them (PDF version);
- Another leaflet that to remind your members they have the right to conduct some union activities in their workplace (PDF version);
- This document outlines the tools available for you to reach out to our members and get their help to provide the critical
information we need. It also tells you where to send the information once you have
collected it;
- A card designed to ask our members a few
questions about employer actions in their workplaces that could have an impact on their
jobs and the services they provide (such as are there vacant positions);
- A short form that we’re asking each
Local/Branch to use to keep track of what’s happening in your workplace(s). A 2009 version and a version for each quarter of 2010;
- A form to be used to find out from management about any
changes they’re planning. We’ve provided some sample questions to start you off (PDF version).
