M – Claudette Guibord; 2nd – Peter Hyduk; Carried.
MATTERS ARISING:
Victoria Quilts – For the benefit of Wilma and Rachelle, Pat gave a quick recap of MDAC’s support to this organization that we have decided to support as part of our outreach program. Also, if promotional items are available, we may be able to gain further support at the Access Conference.
Access Conference – As the Host Committee, MDAC will provide the attendees keychains as part of their welcome package. At the host table it is hoped to have past members, who have retired, can staff the table and be considered “guests” in lieu of the observers fee. Pat Mc Grath will inquire with the Conference organizers
Pat will also inquire if, as the chair of the host committee, there is an entitlement to an overnight stay on Thursday. If this is not an entitlement, a motion was put forward to pursue this issue with the Organizing Committee as we feel that the chair of MDAC should be present to represent the Host Committee during registration on Thursday evening.
M – Rachelle Halpenny; 2nd – Denise Camus; Carried.
There were no other matters arising from the June minutes.

December 3, 2007 – International Day for PWDs – MDAC would like to recognize the day, but would like to limit the size of the event as we are involved in other activities such as Victoria’s Quilts and JamDay. A movie night, focusing on PWD individuals or topics was suggested. Pat will inquire as to the selection of movies that may be available.
The Citizen Advocacy Group holds a dinner event on December 3 at which they present a “Celebration Of People Award” to people active in the PWD forum. A motion was put forward that MDAC should consider nominating someone for the award.
M – Rachelle Halpenny; 2nd – Denise Camus; Carried.
There is an opportunity to attend or sponsor a table at the Citizen Advocacy Group dinner event. Rachelle will inquire as to the nomination process, as well as the cost and commitment for the dinner table.
December 10, 2007 – Human Rights Day – This is in the planning stage. As in other years, awards will be given out at the event. Each Committee (Women’s; RVAC; Pride; MDAC; and, Men’s) will be able to nominate a person that has moved their agenda forward. More news to follow.
Summer Social – John offered his home to hold a summer social for MDAC members and their families. So, from 2PM – 6PM on August 18, 2007, there will be a “pot-luck” gathering at John’s house. John will be providing the hamburgers and hotdogs. Pat has volunteered to coordinate our replies and let everyone know the final count so that appropriate quantities of food can be brought. All members are requested to inform Pat as to their attendance at the social no later than August 13, 2007. John’s address will be provided, along with the numbers of attendees, in a following email. Don’t forget your bathing suits
M – John Jedrasik; 2nd – Peter Hyduk; Carried.
OTHER – ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION:
Pat Mc Grath wrote a letter in response to an article by Mr Butler in the Ottawa Citizen July 31, 2007. Many enlightening facts were included for Mr Butler to consider, but due to its length, the letter was sent to Mr Butler directly and it is not expected to appear in the paper.
Unfortunately, it appears that we must constantly challenge our PSAC leadership to recognize and acknowledge our members with disabilities. We must repeatedly engage our own PSAC executive in order to drag them to our events. If anyone can find a solution to remedy the complacency of our leaders, please share it with our committee.
End of Discussion points.
DATE OF NEXT MEETING:
The date of our next meeting will be determined at the Summer Social. If necessary, we will meet again before the Access Conference. Otherwise, our next meeting will be October 4, 2007
ADJOURNMENT:
Motion to adjourn was made at 2000 hrs.
