2008 Federal Campaign

Debates in Hull-Aylmer, Ottawa-Centre and Gatineau are over

The candidates' evaluation process of the Bloc Québécois (on the Quebec side), the Conservative Party, the Green Party, the Liberal Party and the New Democratic Party continued on September 30 with two debates in Gatineau and Ottawa-Centre. Click for pictures and details of these debates, as well as the one held on September 29 in Hull-Aylmer.

Members of the electoral teams will report to the Ottawa Area Council and the Conseil régional d'action politique de l'Outaouais et du Conseil régional d'Ottawa next week. The two concils will meet on October 8 and will vote on recommendations which will be given to the members of certain NCR ridings.

Ottawa-Centre

The debate was held on September 30 at the Ottawa Public Library. Maria Fitzpatrick, PSAC REVP for the National Capital Region hosted the debate. The following candidates were present:

  • Paul Dewar, NDP
  • Penny Collenette, Liberal Party
  • Jen Hunter, Green Party

Brian McGarry, the Conservative candidate, was not present.

Gatineau

The debate in Gatineau was also held on September 30 and moderated by Daniel Charron, president of CRAPO. The following candidates were present:

  • Françoise Boivin, NDP
  • Richard Nadeau, Bloc Québécois
  • Michel Simard, Liberal Party
  • David Inglis, Green Party
  • Denis Tassé, Conservative Party

Hull-Aylmer

  • Raphaël Déry, Bloc Québécois
  • Pierre Ducasse, NDP
  • Marcel Proulx, Liberal Party
  • Frédéric Pouyot, Green Party

The Conservative Party candidate, Paul Fréchette, was absent.

The invitation to Brian McGarry was delivered...

Maria Fitzpatrick, PSAC Regional Executive Vice-President and Hugh McGoldrick, President of PSAC's Local 70000, delivered a personal invitation to the Conservative candidate in Ottawa-Centre, Brian McGarry. Mr. McGarry did not show up.

Invitations to Mr Fréchette and Tassé were delivered...

Maria Fitzpatrick, PSAC Regional Executive Vice-President (right) and Francine Stuart, CRAPO Vice-President, delivered personal invitations to the two Conservative candidates in Gatineau and Hull-Aylmer, Denis Tassé and Paul Fréchette, so they have all the information on the debates that will be held in their ridings. M. Tassé showed up, while Mr. Fréchette was absent.
